PlayStation 5 Slim (disc)
The PS5 Slim disc edition is the console people are actually looking for, and it is priced by sellers against the older fat PS5, the Digital edition and their own impatience. The margin is the biggest of the consoles, and the checks are all about the drive, the HDMI port and the ban list.

Is it the right one?
- Slim: the two-tone white panels split horizontally at the middle, and it is noticeably smaller than the launch PS5. Model number CFI-2015 (disc) on the sticker. CFI-2016 is Digital: same body, no disc slot, lower ceiling.
- The disc slot is a thin horizontal line on the front bottom right. If there is no slot, it is Digital regardless of what the title says.
- A "1TB" Slim is standard; the launch model was 825GB.
Before you drive
- Ask for photos of the ports (HDMI, USB) and the model number sticker. Ask whether the seller's account is still on it. Ask if it has ever been banned.
- Power it on. Watch the fan and listen. Grinding or roaring at the home screen is a dying fan or a dust-packed heat sink.
- Sign in or reach the store to prove it is not banned. A banned console cannot play online and sells for parts.
- Test the drive with your disc, the HDMI port with a wiggle (bent pins are the most common console failure), and every controller stick with the built-in calibration screen.
- Have the seller factory-reset it in front of you and remove their account. Pay after.
Bring
- A game disc you own (to test the drive)
- An HDMI cable and, if you can, a portable monitor or a plan to test at their place
- A controller you trust (to isolate a bad controller from a bad console)
- Cash, counted at home
What to check in person
- Disc drive: put your disc in, it must pull it in and read. A drive that spits it back is a $60–100 repair.
- HDMI port: plug in, gently wiggle the cable. Picture drop-outs mean bent pins, the number-one PS5 failure.
- Not banned: Settings → Users → sign in, or open the PlayStation Store. Banned consoles cannot go online.
- Fan: at the home screen it should be near silent. Loud at idle means a dust-packed heat sink or a failing fan; open the side panel and look.
- DualSense controller: Settings → Accessories → Controllers → Calibrate; sticks must center. Adaptive triggers must click.
- Seller's account removed and a factory reset done in front of you: Settings → System → System Software → Reset Options → Reset Your Console.
- Included: HDMI 2.1 cable, power cable, one controller, the stand if they have it. Games add $20–50 each.
The desk's own checklist for this unit
- Match the model number and confirm the detachable disc drive is paired and included.
- Test cold boot, storage, Wi-Fi, HDMI output, USB ports, disc read/eject, and a game under load.
- Test the DualSense for drift, triggers, charging, speaker, microphone, touchpad, and every button.
- Check for account, console, parental-control, or online-service bans and abnormal heat or fan noise.
- Reject banned, account-locked, broken, parts-only, console-only, or materially incomplete listings.
- Bundle extras have zero assigned value unless the exact component is separately researched.
- Online completed-sale and retailer prices are market anchors, not a guarantee of the founder local resale price.
What goes wrong
- Banned console
- Works perfectly offline, worthless online. Always sign in or open the store before paying. Sellers know; ask straight out.
- Digital sold as disc
- PS5 Digital and Series X Digital look like the disc models from the front. Look for the drive slot. The ceiling is for the disc edition.
- HDMI port "works with a little wiggle"
- That is a $80–120 repair and a console that will die on the buyer. Price it as broken or walk.
- Box only, or the wrong box
- A sealed-looking box with a different console, a brick, or nothing inside. Open it and power it on. Every time.
- Missing the parts that cost money
- Official dock and adapter (Switch), original controller, HDMI 2.1 cable. Third-party docks have bricked Switches. Missing parts come out of your price.
- Stolen
- No account on it, no box, no cable, "found it", meeting in a hurry. Serial numbers get reported; you inherit the problem.
The message
What the app writes for you, one tap, never above the ceiling. If the ask is under $275 you meet the ask; if it's over, you offer the ceiling.
Hi! Is the PS5 Slim still available? I can pick up today with cash near Salt Lake City. Would you take $275?
Then, before you drive: "Could you send a quick video of it powering on and working? Then I'll head straight over with cash."
Where it sells
- Consoles sell fastest with games. A bundle with two or three popular titles and a second controller moves in days and adds $40–80 over the bare console.
- Local cash is the market. Photograph it powered on at the home screen, ports in focus, every included cable laid out.
- eBay net after fees and shipping is usually below the local sells-for price for consoles because of shipping weight. Use it as the floor.
- Clean it. Compressed air through the vents, a microfiber wipe, the stickers off. Ten minutes, $20 more.
"PS5 Slim Disc Edition 1TB — CFI-2015, not banned, adult owned" is a title that answers every question a buyer asks.
Why this one
Consistent demand, sellers who confuse the three PS5 models, and a resale price that holds. This is the flip that turns a weekend into a few hundred dollars.
