MacBook Air M2
The M2 MacBook Air is the laptop everyone under thirty wants and the one that shows up on Marketplace every day from graduating students. Biggest ticket in the playbooks, biggest margin, and the two checks that matter are Find My Mac and the battery cycle count. The 13-inch 8GB / 256GB is the volume configuration priced here.

The ceiling is for exactly this: MacBook Air M2, 256GB · as listed. Priced the way the app prices a target you add yourself: from eBay comps (38) on Sep 19; sells-for is 90% of the eBay median, the ceiling leaves 25–30% after you sell. eBay fees 13.6% + $0.40 + ~$20 shipping.
Is it the right one?
- Apple menu → About This Mac: "MacBook Air (13-inch, M2, 2022)", chip Apple M2, memory 8 GB, storage 256 GB for this ceiling. 16GB and 512GB sell for more.
- Flat-sided design with a notch in the screen and MagSafe 3 charging (the M1 Air is wedge-shaped, no notch, no MagSafe). Midnight, Starlight, Space Gray, Silver.
- Model number A2681 on the underside.
Before you drive
- Ask for a screenshot of About This Mac (model, chip, memory, storage) and a photo of System Settings → Battery → Battery Health with the cycle count. Ask if Find My is off and whether it was ever a company machine.
- In person, before money: the seller signs out of iCloud and erases the Mac in front of you (System Settings → General → Transfer or Reset → Erase All Content and Settings). It must come back to the setup assistant without asking for an old password.
- Then the checks below. Keyboard, every key. Trackpad click everywhere. Screen on white and black. Charging light or percentage climbing.
- Pay after it boots to setup on the erased drive.
Bring
- The charger the seller says is included, or your own USB-C charger to test charging
- A USB drive to test a port
- Your phone to run a screen test (a plain white and a plain black image)
- Cash, counted at home
What to check in person
- Find My Mac off, iCloud signed out, and Erase All Content and Settings run in front of you. It must boot to the setup assistant. If it shows a remote-management screen it is a company machine; walk.
- Battery: System Settings → General → About → System Report → Power. Cycle count under 500 and condition "Normal". Over 800 is a battery, price it.
- Screen on white and black: pressure marks, lines, dim corners. The M2 Air screen is $400+ to replace.
- Keyboard: type every key in a text field, including the function row. Trackpad clicks in all four corners; Force Touch works.
- Ports: MagSafe charges (the LED lights), both USB-C ports (plug your drive), the headphone jack.
- Speakers and mics: a FaceTime test call to your phone covers camera, mic and speakers at once.
- Underside: no bulge (swollen battery), no missing screws, no corrosion at the ports.
- Charger included and genuine (30W or 35W Apple, the plug sits flush). A missing charger is $50.
The desk's own checklist for this unit
- Boot it and sign out of the seller's Apple ID / Microsoft account; no Activation Lock or MDM.
- Check battery cycle count and health (Mac: About This Mac → System Report → Power); over 800 cycles means a $130–200 battery.
- Test every key, the trackpad, all ports, the display for dead pixels and burn-in, the speakers and the webcam.
- Confirm the exact chip, RAM and storage in About This Mac / System Information.
- Ceiling comes from current eBay asks, not sold prices. Treat it as a starting point and tighten it with your own sales.
What goes wrong
- Activation Lock / Find My Mac
- Same as an iPhone. A locked Mac is a paperweight. Signed out and erased in front of you.
- MDM / company laptop
- After the erase, a managed Mac shows a "remote management" screen and locks. Ask before you drive; walk if it appears.
- Wrong chip or memory
- M1 sold as M2, 8GB sold as 16GB, 256 sold as 512. About This Mac settles it. The ceiling is for one exact configuration.
- Battery "fine"
- Battery Health under 80% or a cycle count over ~800 is a $150–200 battery. Price it in.
- Liquid damage
- Sticky keys, a keyboard that feels uneven, corrosion at the ports, a fan that never stops. Apple will not touch it. Walk.
- Screen with a story
- Pressure marks, a faint line, a dim corner: a $400+ screen on a MacBook. Test on white and on black, in the shade.
The message
What the app writes for you, one tap, never above the ceiling. If the ask is under $400 you meet the ask; if it's over, you offer the ceiling.
Hi! Is the MacBook Air still available? I can pick up today with cash near Salt Lake City. Would you take $400?
Then, before you drive: "Could you send a quick video of it powering on and working? Then I'll head straight over with cash."
Where it sells
- Local cash at the sells-for price, with About This Mac and the battery cycle count in the photos. Students in August and January; everyone the week before a school term.
- eBay is strong for MacBooks but shipping is $20+ and buyers dispute; pack it in the original box or a laptop box with foam.
- Apple trade-in is the hard floor and is instant. Know it before you buy.

Why this one
