iPhone 15 Pro

One generation old, still the phone most people want, and cheap enough now that sellers under-price it every week. Titanium frame, USB-C, 3× telephoto. The 256GB unlocked unit is the one the app hunts because it is the one that sells the same everywhere.

The ceiling is for exactly this: iPhone 15 Pro, 256GB · unlocked · any standard color. Evidence reviewed Sep 9, confidence medium. eBay fees 13.6% + $0.40 + ~$12 shipping.

Is it the right one?

  • Settings → General → About: Model Name says "iPhone 15 Pro" (not Pro Max, not 15). Capacity says 256 GB.
  • Three rear cameras in a raised square, an Action button where the mute switch used to be, USB-C on the bottom.
  • Model numbers A2848 (US) or A3101 / A3102. Any of those is fine when unlocked.

Before you drive

  1. Ask for the IMEI (Settings → General → About, or dial *#06#). Run it through a free IMEI checker for blacklist and lock status. Ask if it is paid off. If they will not send it, do not go.
  2. In the parking lot, before money changes hands: the phone must be signed out of iCloud / the Google account in front of you, then erased. "I will do it later" means no.
  3. Then the checks below, in order. Ten minutes. Nobody who is selling a clean phone minds.
  4. Pay only after the phone finishes setup on your SIM and makes a call.

Bring

  • Your own SIM (to make a call on the spot)
  • A charging cable and a power bank
  • A paperclip or SIM tool
  • A flashlight (your other phone) for the frame and lenses
  • Cash, counted at home, in an envelope

What to check in person

  • Battery Health (Settings → Battery → Battery Health): 85% or better. Under 80% is a $90 battery, price it in.
  • Parts and Service History under About: if it lists anything, the part is non-genuine unless it says "Genuine Apple Part". A replaced screen with no True Tone toggle in Control Center is an aftermarket screen.
  • Carrier Lock under About must say "No SIM restrictions".
  • Face ID: set it up or have them unlock it in front of you. A dead Face ID is usually a swapped screen or a drop.
  • Cameras: open the camera, tap 0.5×, 1×, 2×, 3×. Each must switch cleanly with no black frames or shake.
  • Action button and volume buttons click. Speaker phone call. Microphone (record a voice memo).
  • Titanium frame: dents at the corners mean drops. Back glass cracks are a $150+ repair on this model; walk.
  • Insert your SIM. It should get service within a minute. Make a call.
The desk's own checklist for this unit
  • Match the model and storage in Settings to the listing.
  • Confirm the IMEI is clean, unlocked, paid off, and free of activation or account locks.
  • Test biometric unlock, cameras, speakers, microphones, buttons, charging, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular service.
  • Check battery health, repair history, liquid exposure, screen, frame, and back glass.
  • Reject activation-locked, carrier-locked, financed, MDM-managed, blacklisted, cracked, parts-only, or materially defective phones.
  • Online sold and refurbished prices are market anchors, not a guarantee of the founder local resale price.

What goes wrong

The code text
They ask you to read back a "verification code" they just texted you. That is a Google Voice or Marketplace account takeover. Never share a code. The app hides listings with a code in the title for this reason.
Financed, not paid off
A phone on a carrier payment plan works fine today and gets blacklisted the month they stop paying. "Unlocked" is not "paid off". Ask, and check the IMEI with the carrier.
iCloud / Activation Lock
If Find My is still on, the phone is a brick to you. They must sign out in front of you. No exceptions, no "I forgot my password".
Wrong storage, wrong model
Titles say Pro Max when it is a Pro, 256 when it is 128. Settings → About settles it. The ceiling is for one exact model and storage.
Repaired with the wrong parts
A replaced screen or battery shows up in Settings → General → About → Parts and Service History on recent iPhones, and as a missing True Tone toggle. Non-genuine parts cut the resale price.
Too good, in a hurry
A phone $150 under every other listing, "must sell tonight", meet somewhere odd. Walk. The app flags too-good asks as INVESTIGATE, not POUNCE.
Shipping only
Local flips are cash, in person. Anyone insisting on shipping, Zelle, Venmo, Cash App or a "deposit to hold it" is not selling you a phone.

The message

What the app writes for you, one tap, never above the ceiling. If the ask is under $350 you meet the ask; if it's over, you offer the ceiling.

Hi! Is the iPhone 15 Pro still available? I can pick up today with cash near Salt Lake City. Would you take $350?

Then, before you drive: "Could you send a quick video of it powering on and working? Then I'll head straight over with cash."

Where it sells

  • Local cash first: relist on Marketplace and OfferUp at the sells-for price with your own photos, in daylight, on a plain background, showing the About screen. Good units go in 2–5 days.
  • eBay is the floor, not the goal: the median above minus roughly 13.6% fees, $0.40, and shipping is what actually lands in your account. Use it when local is slow or for the models that sell better nationally.
  • Swappa and trade-in programs (Apple, Best Buy, carriers) set a hard floor. Know the trade-in number before you buy; it is the worst case if you cannot sell it.
  • Never sell locked, financed or damaged units as clean. Your name is the business.

List it as "iPhone 15 Pro 256GB Unlocked — battery 9x%" with the About screen in the photos. Buyers on Marketplace search the storage.

Why this one

It sells for real money on every platform, buyers know exactly what it is, and it is small enough to carry ten of them. Margin per unit is thin compared to a console but the volume is there every week.
