iPad Air M2

The 2024 iPad Air with the M2 chip is the iPad people actually want: fast enough for years, cheaper than a Pro, and sold by people who bought it for one semester. It comes in 11-inch and 13-inch; the 11-inch 128GB Wi-Fi is the volume unit and the one priced here.

The ceiling is for exactly this: iPad Air M2, 128GB · as listed. Priced the way the app prices a target you add yourself: from eBay comps (9) on Sep 19; sells-for is 90% of the eBay median, the ceiling leaves 25–30% after you sell. eBay fees 13.6% + $0.40 + ~$12 shipping.

Is it the right one?

  • Settings → General → About: Model Name "iPad Air 11-inch (M2)" or "iPad Air 13-inch (M2)". Capacity 128 GB for this ceiling.
  • Landscape front camera (on the long edge) is the tell versus the M1 Air, which has it on the short edge. USB-C. Touch ID in the top button.
  • Wi-Fi vs Wi-Fi + Cellular: a SIM tray or eSIM under Settings → Cellular. Cellular is worth more and can be locked; the ceiling is Wi-Fi.

Before you drive

  1. Ask for a photo of Settings → General → About (model, capacity) and whether Find My is off. An iPad with Find My on is a brick to you.
  2. In person, before money: signed out of iCloud in front of you, then Erase All Content and Settings, then through setup to the home screen.
  3. Then the checks below. A plain white screen and a plain black one tell you most of what a screen has been through.
  4. Pay after setup completes and the screen, cameras and charging have passed.

Bring

  • A USB-C cable and a power bank
  • A flashlight for the screen edges and the frame
  • The playbook checklist open on your phone
  • Cash, counted at home

What to check in person

  • Signed out of iCloud in front of you, erased, back to setup. Not negotiable.
  • Not supervised: the top of Settings must not say "This iPad is supervised and managed by…".
  • Screen on a plain white page in the shade: even brightness, no dim corners, no yellow patch, no lines. Then plain black: no bright spots.
  • True Tone toggle present in Control Center (missing means a replaced screen).
  • Touch ID enrolls a fingerprint. Both cameras, both speakers (play a video), the microphone.
  • USB-C charges and the percentage climbs within a minute.
  • Frame: bends are the classic iPad failure; sight down the long edge. Corners dented means dropped.
  • Apple Pencil Pro / USB-C pencil pairs if included (adds $50–80 to the resale).
The desk's own checklist for this unit
  • Sign out of the seller's Apple ID; no Activation Lock.
  • Check the exact model and storage in Settings, cellular vs Wi-Fi.
  • Test touch across the whole screen, Face ID / Touch ID, cameras, speakers, and the charging port.
  • Look for screen scratches and bent corners.
  • Ceiling comes from current eBay asks, not sold prices. Treat it as a starting point and tighten it with your own sales.

What goes wrong

Activation Lock
Same as a phone: Find My on means it is not yours after you pay. Signed out in front of you or no deal.
Wrong generation
Air, Pro, plain iPad, mini; M1, M2, A14. Titles blur them. Settings → About → Model Name is the only truth. The ceiling is for one exact model.
Cellular sold as Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi sold as cellular
Cellular models sell for more and can be carrier-locked or financed. Check for a SIM tray or eSIM under Settings → Cellular.
MDM / school iPad
A school or company iPad shows "This iPad is supervised" at the top of Settings and comes back locked after a reset. Walk.
Screen swaps
Aftermarket screens have dim corners, a slightly off color, and no True Tone toggle. Price it as repaired or walk.
The code text
Never read a "verification code" back to a seller. Account takeover.

The message

What the app writes for you, one tap, never above the ceiling. If the ask is under $305 you meet the ask; if it's over, you offer the ceiling.

Hi! Is the iPad Air still available? I can pick up today with cash near Salt Lake City. Would you take $305?

Then, before you drive: "Could you send a quick video of it powering on and working? Then I'll head straight over with cash."

Where it sells

  • Local cash first at the sells-for price with the About screen in the photos. Parents and students buy iPads; list it in the evening.
  • eBay works well for iPads (light, cheap to ship): median minus fees and $12–15 shipping is your floor.
  • Include the cable. A cheap case adds $15 to the perceived value.

Title with the size and chip: "iPad Air 11-inch M2 128GB Wi-Fi". Include the cable and a case if you have one.

Why this one

High demand from students and parents, a resale price that holds, and sellers who price the Air like an old plain iPad. Ships cheap if local is slow.
